Adventures on the Island

The boat ride from the East End to the resort was a welcome treat. The hike over there was exhausting, but well worth it. We joined the students in the elementary school over there in a beach clean up. After filling about 10 large garbage bags, we played schoolyard games with the kids, and they played music for us.

I love finding new plants and organisms around the island. There are so many insects here that I've never seen before. I figured an unknown flower would make for a more beautiful blog post though. If anyone can tell me what this is, that would be much appreciated!

The bay makes for a stunning view at all hours of the day. The sunset reflected on the waves is breathtaking, and the dock offers a beautiful view of the stars at night. The light pollution is so minimal here that on a clear night, one can see thousands of stars up in the sky. I'm looking forward to the new moon on the 22nd (our last night here).

Last night the view of the stars would sometimes be interrupted by a bright flash of lightning. The night was so dark that the occasional lightning would leave us blinking hard as it left a lightning shaped blob in our vision. It was stunning to see, the stars, the lightning, the bay. There were also a good deal of bioluminescent organisms lighting up the bay. We even saw an eagle ray before it dashed under the dock.

There's so much to see here that even though it feels like a relaxing time, spending too long on the hammocks feels like a waste of time that could be spent snorkeling, hiking, practicing Spanish, teaching English, etc.
