After a night at the Gran Hotel Paris and an hour long boat ride, we finally arrived at Cayos Cochinos. The beauty of these islands is not lost on me. I spent the boat ride staring into the water and watching the color change into the most tranquil blue I have seen to date. We were immediately greeted by the fun and kind staff here at the resort. They gave us a run down of what we are expected to do and then helped us drag our over-packed luggage to our rooms. I haven't seen the other rooms, but the one I share looks like I walked into a magazine photo for paradise.
A group of friends and I waited for lunch to start by hiking across the coast. We took a bunch of pictures and then headed back just in time to be all gross and sweaty for lunch. After that we rested up in our rooms and put on our dive skins, which is not an easy feat.
Getting into the water felt amazing, because the heat here was a little intense, and snorkeling was just an overall awesome experience. I had only seen corals and fish like this in documentaries, so being able to move around in that environment was a dream come true. Most of the group got out of the water pretty early, but a few of us stragglers continued to snorkel for maybe an hour or so.
I hopped into the shower pretty quickly because I did not want to be unclean for another meal. After dinner we sat around and looked into the night. We eventually walked over to the dock and I just laid there and looked at the stars until it was time to go to bed.
It was an unforgettable day.
